They will develop a tailored treatment plan as well as offer advice on the best ways for you to maintain your smile at home between your Dental Excel dentist appointments.

At Dental Excel some of our general dental treatments include; white fillings, root canal therapy and full and partial dentures.

  • Fillings are a treatment to repair a tooth with decay. Today at Dental Excel, a tooth-coloured resin material or porcelain is now the preferred option to silver amalgam fillings as they are almost impossible to distinguish from natural teeth.

Composite resin is a paste-like material that is bonded directly to your tooth in layers and hardened with a special UV light. The resin is then sculpted to the perfect shape and polished. This type of restoration is very strong and can also be used to repair chipped or misshapen teeth and completed in a single appointment.

Other tooth-coloured restorations at Dental Excel are dental inlays and dental onlays. These are a more conservative restorative solution than a crown as only a minimal amount of tooth structure needs to be removed during preparation.

A dental inlay is a smaller restoration and is placed ‘in’ the prepared area of a back molar tooth. A dental onlay is a larger restoration and is placed ‘on’ the surface area of a prepared tooth.

These restorations are strong and durable and typically made from porcelain or composite resin. Dental inlays and dental onlays are matched to your tooth colour for a completely natural looking smile.

For some people who visit us at Dental Excel their smile is spoilt by the unsightly appearance of silver amalgam fillings. That’s why they choose to have them replaced with porcelain or composite tooth-coloured restorations. If you would like to explore this option, schedule a consultative appointment with your local Dental Excel practice, we’ve dentists on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane North.

  • Often the most feared yet least understood of all dental treatments offered at Dental Excel. This is largely due to jokes being made about rather having a root canal than doing something unpleasant.

However, root canal therapy is designed to relieve pain and discomfort and with the range of pain relief options at Dental Excel, can be completed in complete comfort. A tooth may require root canal therapy because of severe decay, gum disease or it has suffered damage in an accident. This can cause infection of the tooth pulp (nerves and blood vessels), which then need to be removed.

The procedure involves isolating the tooth and removing any decay. A channel is created so the pulp can be extracted with delicate instruments. The root canals are then thoroughly cleaned, sterilised and re-shaped before being filled with a special compound.

Teeth that have undergone root canal therapy will require a dental crown to restore full strength and function. Depending on the location of the tooth this may be a porcelain crown for front teeth or a gold or alloy based crown for back teeth, which require additional strength.

  • For some of our patients at Dental Excel, dentures are the preferred option for replacing missing teeth. Conventional dentures are removable and supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of your mouth, however there are many new denture designs, some of which rely on bonding or clipping onto existing natural teeth.

Typically made from an acrylic resin, which at times incorporates porcelain or a metal base for additional structural support, dentures restore function, enabling people to eat normally, speak clearly and feel confident about their smile. Dentures also provide support for the facial muscles, cheeks and lips.

It’s not advisable to wear your denture overnight. Removing them allows the gums to rest and promotes improved oral health. Over time the contour of your gum line may change, therefore it’s advisable to schedule check-up appointments at Dental Excel so any alignment adjustments can be made. This will ensure your denture remains comfortable and secure.

If it’s been a while since your last appointment, we invite you to come in and see our friendly Dental Excel team at one of our Sunshine Coast dental clinics or our Brisbane dentist clinic in Bracken Ridge

  • For those who have suffered from lack of function and constant discomfort from their lower denture extra stability can be achieved with Implants available at Dental Excel Implant Centre at Beerwah. This depends on adequate quantity and quality of bone and satisfactory health and entails either the placement of 2 conventional Implants or alternatively 4 Mini Implants to hold the denture in position.

The latter provides immediate stability without having to wait for implant integration in suitable cases. Ring to make a dentist appointment for your free Implant consultation with David or Finbarr.
